The figure of the Gaucho perhaps best exemplifies the Argentine identity. This character remains very much alive through to today, in the heartland of our vast nation. For more than five years, talented photographer Céline Frers travelled all around Argentina to capture the reality of today’s gaucho. Not the gaucho dressed in feast-day finery, but the authentic gaucho working on horseback, who identifies with his environment in a unique manner.
The photographs in this books clearly show both the similarities and differences between the gauchos of the Pampas, the Northeast, the Northwest, Cuyo and Patagonia. The text that accompanies them completes the detail, and explains some of the history behind each image.
